The business of financial planning is profoundly personal. For us at National Financial Planners Pty Ltd to do our job properly we must "know our client". That requires you to trust us with your private details - not just facts but also your opinions, fears, preferences and goals. That's confidential information you wouldn't normally divulge to anyone outside of your close family.
The privacy of your personal information has always been important to us at National Financial Planners Pty Ltd. This statement is an outline of certain matters relating to the collection and handling of your personal information.
National Privacy Principles
As of 21 December 2001 new privacy regulations came into force. The new rules are encapsulated in ten National Private Principles and essentially they:
- Limit the extent to which organisations can collect, use and disclose personal information without the consent of the individual concerned.
- Require that the personal information held by organisations is kept secure and that it is accurate and up to date;
- Confer on individuals the right to know what personal information is kept about them, to view that information and have it corrected if it is wrong.
In effect, the law is now formalising what has always been best practice. At National Financial Planners Pty Ltd we have always treated confidential information responsibly and ethically, so compliance doesn't involve any significant changes to our systems or processes.
Collecting your personal information
The purposes for which your personal information is collected will depend on the type of service you require.
If you are acquiring, or have acquired a service from National Financial Planners Pty Ltd we will collect your personal information for the purposes of:
- Providing you with the relevant product or service.
- Managing and administering our services.
- Protecting against fraud where it is a financial planning, broking, investment superannuation, insurance product or service.
You are not obliged to provide us with any of the personal information which we request, however, without the information we seek we may not be able to :
- Provide you with appropriate complete financial services.
- Manage or administer your product or service.
- Tell you about other products or services that might better service your financial and lifestyle needs.

National Financial Planners Pty Ltd takes all reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.
National Financial Planners Pty Ltd has electronic, physical and procedural safeguards to protect the personal information which is held by us. Your personal information is:
- Stored in secure office premises.
- Stored in our secure electronic client databases, requiring passwords for access, and;
- Subject to strict employee guidelines in relation to access and use.

You are entitled at any time to request access to your personal information held by National Financial Planners Pty Ltd and ask that any details, which are out of date or incorrect to be corrected.
